Please join us for our general chapter meeting on Tuesday, April 27, 2021.  In addition to our regular Chapter business, the following presentation will be offered for attendees:

Topic: Latest Progress in Structural Fire Engineering

Offering (1 ) CEU credit

Speaker: Qianru Guo, SGH

Speaker BioQianru Guo joined the fire safety group at Simpson Gumpertz & Heger Inc. (SGH) in 2015. She holds a Ph.D degree in Structural Engineering and a dual master’s degree in Civil Engineering and Mechanical Engineering from University of Michigan. She has a wealth of experience on life/fire safety code consulting, fire/egress modelling, structural finite element analysis, and seismic probabilistic risk assessment. She also has a passion for structural fire engineering analysis, especially for reliability based analysis on structural response under fire events.

Presentation DescriptionPerformance-based structural fire engineering is intended to provide alternative solutions to the existing prescriptive fire resistance design given by code, and it has been supported by more standard/code in recent years. In this presentation, the motivation behind performance based structural fire engineering design will be introduced.  A summary of available industry standards supporting this alternative will be discussed. The common framework for conducting performance based structural fire engineering will be introduced using recent industry projects.
