Presentation: Fire Life Safety Performance-Based Design in Three Case Studies

Speaker: Nathan B. Wittasek, SGH

Description:

The AEC industry has seen significant advancements in the technology and working methods used to design and construct buildings around the world. It has never been easier to efficiently design highly customized projects that have the potential to deliver substantial value to project stakeholders. In response to this new reality, project teams have started to embrace performance-based design as an alternative to the traditional prescriptive requirements of building, fire, and life safety codes.  In this webinar, we will explore three project examples to highlight how physics-based approaches to building design – predominantly in the sphere of fire and life safety – can be used to complement architecture, add value, and increase robustness.

After attending this seminar, participants will be able to:

1.       Understand basic principles of performance-based design.

2.       Identify applications of performance-based fire engineering in the context of the building code.

3.       Describe how to use performance-based design approaches to achieve project goals.

4.       Recognize real-life examples of performance-based design to address fire and life safety concerns.

Pricing is as follows:

  • Members: Free with annual membership in good standing
  • FDNY; Students with a valid student email address: Free of charge
  • Non-Members: $30
