Long Island Rail Road Expansion Project / Floral Park to Hicksville - Delivery of a Successful Design-Build This event (ASCE-MS-2023-CE4) is hosted by the ASCE Met Section/Continuing Education Committee jointly with the Metropolitan Engineering Societies Council (MESC), Inc. as part of the Engineer's week Celebration. The Presenter is John Mastera, P.E. The LIRR Expansion Project is a $2.5B Design-Build that was completed in 4.5 years by constructing over 9 miles of a new track, elimination of eight at-grade street crossings, reconstruction of five passenger stations, construction of two parking garages, installation of over ten miles of retaining and sound attenuation walls, and all new railroad systems and infrastructure. This project was successful in achieving all major milestones on-schedule and continues to be on-budget. In this discussion, you will learn the details of the project and how a project of this size can be delivered successfully.
