Window Sprinklers: Alternate Active Protection Designs for Fire Rated Separations

Please join us for our general chapter meeting on Tuesday, February 27, 2024.  In addition to our regular Chapter business, the following presentation will be offered for attendees:

Topic: 

This session will address requirements for listed window sprinklers in NFPA 13 2016, 2019, and 2022 edition and model building codes. The presentation will provide a breakdown of the rigorous full-scale testing required by Underwriters Laboratory (UL). The presentation will then discuss when sprinkler protection on windows is permitted, options for equivalencies, and listed window sprinklers. Finally, the presentation will breakdown examples of standalone installations and integration within fully sprinklered buildings along with and their effect on hydraulic calculations.

• ·         Recognize what a window sprinkler listing is designed to prove
• ·         Identify where standard spray and specially listed sprinklers could be used for window protection
• ·         Differentiate standard spray and specially listed window sprinkler protection criteria
• ·         Apply the requirements from NFPA 13, IBC, and manufacturer’s installation instructions for protecting windows with automatic sprinklers
